The promises we make at the start of a new year can be hard to keep, so how about kicking off 2017 with a resolution that will have you looking and feeling great in just 30 minutes a week? Do we have your interest? Great! Here it is - Ling’s simple, at-home facial for gorgeous skin!
First, grab your favorite cleanser. Wet your face with warm water and apply the cleanser in circular motions, taking the time to get into the cracks and crevices around the nose, between the eyes, and on the chin. Slow down and double the time you normally spend washing your face to really get rid of everything that’s been invading your skin all week long. Now rinse with warm water.
Next, apply your favorite exfoliator or scrub to damp skin. You can use your fingertips or a hot towel and massage the product in circular motions once again. Give yourself a full few minutes to really get down deep and allow the exfoliator to get rid of the oil, blackheads, and dead skin cells that may be trapped. Pay lots of attention to your t-zone and if the skin starts to dry while you’re massaging it, just add some warm water to reinvigorate the scrub. If you spend most of your days in the office and on the phone, make sure to really get in good underneath your chin where the phone sits, as well as any other areas that are of specific concern to you. If you don’t have a scrub at home, a finely cut oatmeal makes for a perfect substitute. When you’re ready, rinse with warm water.
Now that the surface of your skin is clean, it’s time to get down deep into the pores with a clay mask. Apply the mask all over the face and under the chin using your fingertips and let it dry for 10-15 minutes. The clay will absorb all the excess oil from the skin and it will pull any blockages out of the pores, tightening them and giving your face a more refined texture. Make sure not to leave the mask on for too long - it will dry out the skin. As soon as you see that the clay itself is dry, you can remove the mask using a warm, wet towel.
Next, it’s time to nourish. Once the skin has been thoroughly cleaned, it has to be rehydrated so it can glow. A moisturizing mask that’s gel or cream based will work perfectly as the lighter formulations will allow the skin to breathe and can encourage oxygen to come to the surface. If you’re not sure what to use, an aloe based product works just perfectly. Apply the gel or cream to clean, moist skin, and leave it to dry. This one can be left on for a bit longer and Ling likes to indulge in a warm footbath with orange peels and lavender to help the body relax while the mask is rehydrating the skin. When the mask is dry, you can remove it with warm water, or peel it off as directed on the packaging.
If you use these simple steps as part of your new weekend ritual, you will instantly have a more beautiful complexion and you’ll enable your skin to absorb more of the nutrients and active ingredients from the products in your daily routine.
